Prescription Drug Abuse

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified
Prescription Drug Abuse as an Epidemic.

Prescription medications are now the most commonly abused drugs among 12 to 13 year-old children.

Most people do not secure their prescription drugs and are unaware that medicine cabinets serve as an easy target for prescription drug theft.

Four out of every five heroin users started out by first misusing prescription opioid pain medications.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) completed a study in 2011 that found illegally obtained prescription drugs originated from an internet sale only 0.5% of the time and from drug dealers or strangers only 5.8% of the time.

Incredibly, this same NSDUH study found that the overwhelming majority of illegal prescription drugs were obtained from friends and family 70.8% of the time most often from medicine cabinets.

Securely storing prescription medications in the home could help
stop prescription drug abuse where it often begins.
